Dolly Parton has announced a call for nominations for a Broadway musical biopic
Country music icon Dolly Parton has announced an open casting call for her upcoming Broadway musical, “Dolly: An Original Musical,” set to premiere in 2026. The project seeks singers of all ages to portray Parton in at various stages of his life
Sharing the news on Instagram, Parton expressed excitement about the project. “I’m putting out a search for Dolly,” he said. “Whether you’re chasing your dreams from a small town or you have years of experience on stage, I want to give you the opportunity to help bring my story to Broadway and maybe even play me.”

Prospective artists must post a one-minute video of themselves singing their favorite Dolly Parton songs on social media using the hashtag #SearchForDolly. Accepted platforms include Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X. Once posted, applicants have to fill the music application form online. Those under 18 must submit their audition video directly through the website. Entries close January 13, 2025 at midnight.
Selected actors will be invited to audition for the selection of the show’s director. “Dolly: An Original Musical” will be directed by Bartlett Sher, with music and lyrics by Parton. Further details on the venue and casting updates have yet to be announced.
The musical is expected to tell the story of Parton’s rise from humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to global music legend. It will play iconic songs from its extensive catalog, as well as new compositions created especially for the event.
